Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson’s shows on Fox News have lost significant ad dollars after a series of activist-led boycotts scared off many national brands following comments the pair made about gun control and immigration, respectively, The Wrap reports.
Ingraham infuriated gun control advocates last March when she mocked a school shooting survivor for being rejected by a handful of colleges. Carlson has been chastised for saying immigrants make the United States “poorer and dirtier,” comments that led to at least 17 major advertisers bailing on his nightly program.
Ingraham’s 10 p.m. ET show was down at least $16 million in ad revenue in 2018, according to analysis provided to The Wrap by Standard Media Index, while Carlson’s 8 p.m. ET show lost another $2.2 million in recent weeks following a boycott that started in December.
Fox News disputed the report.
“Advertisers have started to return and this period is not representative of the status quo in commercial loads for the industry as virtually every network runs a lighter commercial load during the first two weeks of the year,” Marianne Gambelli, Fox News president of ad sales, told TheWrap in a statement. “No revenue was lost as inventory has been shifted to other dayparts and we are on track to deliver a record year in ad sales.”
