On Sunday, at least 57 people were killed and another 119 were injured while waiting in line at a Kabul, Afghanistan office to receive national voter ID cards when a suicide bomber blew himself up.
21 women and five children were among the killed. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack through their AMAQ news service.
ISIS and the Taliban are trying to threaten the national legislative elections coming up in October and disrupt Afghanistan’s goal of registering 14 million voters for the election.
This is the fourth such attack in a dinky over a week. The legislative election, initially set for 2015 was delayed to July 2018 due to instability. The election was then moved again to October 2018.
Afghanistan also has a presidential election set for 2019.
